Kingston Police warn against phishing scam

Kingston Police have warned that they are currently receiving multiple complaints of an active phishing scam from fraudsters pretending to be associated with the retail store Costco.
“Complainants are receiving text messages that indicate an annual rebate is ready to be deposited and requests they select their bank from a list,” said Kingston Police in an advisory. According to police, the victim is then redirected to what appears to be a valid bank website, which requests name, account information, password, etc. in order to receive the rebate.
“Please do not click on any links in emails or text message from unknown or un-anticipated contact,” Kingston Police advised. “If you have any doubt, look up direct contact information for the business to confirm the validity of the message.”
There will always be thieves!
