Kingston Police respond to Van Order Drive incident

Kingston Police have taken one person into custody following a barricading incident in Queen’s University’s An Clachan residence buildings on Van Order Drive on the afternoon of Tuesday, Apr. 26, 2022.

“The incident on Van Order Drive between MacPherson Avenue and Norman Rogers Drive has concluded with one individual being apprehended without incident,” Kingston Police said in a media update shortly after 9 p.m.

Kingston Police initially responded to the incident in the area of Van Order Drive between Norman Rogers Drive and MacPherson Avenue at around 1 p.m. “There is no risk to public safety, however police are requesting that motorists and pedestrians choose a different route to commute home at this time so as to avoid the area,” police said in a statement at the time.

Kingston Police did not elaborate on the exact nature of the incident, except to say that it involved an individual barricaded inside one of the residence units and that negotiations with the individual were ongoing throughout the afternoon. Queen’s University Security was also on scene as the building is used as a university residence.

“Kingston Police wish to thank the community for their patience. Motorists and pedestrians can now resume regular movement in the area,” Kingston Police said in their final update on the incident.
