Kingston Police report fatal collision involving a pedestrian

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in the area of a busy intersection in central Kingston, according to police.

Just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 17, 2024, emergency services from all departments were dispatched to a reported collision involving a pedestrian near the intersection of Centennial Drive and Bath Road. As Frontenac Paramedic Services tended to the pedestrian and the driver of the vehicle involved, Kingston Police and Kingston Fire & Rescue worked to quickly close the roadway, allowing police to speak with witnesses and begin investigating and paramedics a clear route from the scene towards Kingston General Hospital.

According to Police, the pedestrian was struck by the vehicle in the east-bound lanes of Bath Road at the intersection with Centennial Drive.

“The pedestrian, who suffered life-threatening injuries, was transported to the hospital by Frontenac Paramedics where they later succumbed to their injuries,” said Constable Ash Gutheinz, a Media Relations Officer with Kingston Police.

“The lone occupant of the involved motor vehicle was also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The Kingston Police Traffic Safety Unit and Collision Reconstructionists were called to the scene to carry out further investigation, and the roadway remained closed until approximately 1 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 18, 2024.

Police did not identify the deceased pedestrian.

The investigation into the fatal incident remains ongoing at this time, police said.
