Kingston Police officer sustains hand injury following training exercise

Kingston Police are investigating an accidental discharge of a firearm which caused injury to an officer earlier this week.
According to a release from Kingston Police, on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, a 12-year member of the Kingston Police sustained a hand injury as a result of an accidental discharge of their firearm following a training exercise. Kingston Police said that the officer was transported to hospital and treated for their injuries, and has since been released and is recovering.
No other members of the Service were injured during the incident which occurred in the gun cleaning room at Kingston Police Headquarters, according to the release.
As required, the Ministry of Labour was notified and is conducting an investigation, police said. A Kingston Police internal investigation is also underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kingston Police said that no further information will be provided at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
