Over a 24 hour period from Monday Nov. 5 to Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, Kingston Police responded to eight domestic disturbance calls. As a result of those incidents, four people have been arrested and are facing a combined 10 charges.

The first case began on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, when police were contacted by a complainant regarding threatening text messages she’d received from her ex-boyfriend. The threatening texts were observed by the investigating officer, as was a video of the accused man cutting up the victim’s driver’s licence and health card.

The investigation also found that the accused man had assaulted the victim after they broke up in August of this year. In the incident, the victim had gone to Belleville to attempt to reconcile with the accused man, according to a press release from Kingston Police. As the victim was driving, the man allegedly began yelling and punching the victim. When the two arrived at his house, the accused man continued to be assaultive, and the victim left. She had not seen the accused in person since that incident.

On Monday, Nov. 5, the accused man turned himself in at Kingston Police Headquarters. The 24-year-old Belleville man is charged with assault, uttering threats, and mischief.

The next case began on Friday, Oct. 26, when the victim went to a local hospital for treatment of a substantial injury to her jaw and eye. The victim’s friend contacted Kingston Police and reported that the victim’s injuries were the result of a domestic altercation. Officers responded to the hospital and began an investigation.

The investigation revealed that the victim’s common-law boyfriend, the accused, had been threatening and harassing the victim. The accused man had stolen the victim’s cellphone, threatened her family, and then, on Saturday, Oct. 20, the man struck the victim hard enough that she lost consciousness.

With the accused man’s whereabouts unknown, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, Nov. 5, the accused man turned himself in at Kingston Police Headquarters. He is charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats to damage property, harassment by threatening conduct, and theft.

The final case began at approximately 2:30 p.m. when a common-law couple were in their apartment in Kingston’s north end. While the couple were arguing over stresses in their lives, they began physically attacking each other, police said. The violence included punching, kicking, and hair pulling, and ended with the female burning the male with a cigarette before she poked herself in the arm with a small pocket knife, causing a minor injury for which 911 was called.

Both the male and female were arrested. The 31-year-old local woman is charged with assault and assault with a weapon. The 37-year-old local man is charged with assault.
