An 84-year-old Kingston woman is home safe and sound thanks to local police, who located her after her whereabouts became unknown for nearly 10 hours.

Kingston Police said they were contacted on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, regarding the woman, who had gone missing from her residence in the city’s west end. The woman had left her residence at approximately 5 p.m. that day to attend a pharmacy in order to pick up medications, police relayed. When she didn’t return home for several hours, concerned neighbours attempt to locate the woman. When their efforts proved unsuccessful, the neighbours contacted police.

Kingston Police patrol officers attended the woman’s home and conducted a “thorough search,” and also searched the homes and areas where the woman had previously resided. Police also followed up with the woman’s family and friends, but no one had heard from her.

According to police, patrol officers continued their search for the woman into the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 13, 2021. As the search went on, one Kingston Police officer spotted a vehicle matching the description of the woman’s vehicle driving on Wellington Street downtown at approximately 3 a.m. The officer conducted a stop, and found that the driver was, indeed, the missing woman, who had become confused and disoriented trying to find her previous address, Kingston Police said in a press release on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021.

The missing woman was taken to hospital for medical assessment, but has otherwise been located safely.
