Kingston Police: local man arrested after ‘vicious beating with a shovel’

A local man has been arrested following a vicious attack using a shovel in the Kingscourt area of Kingston.

On Monday, Jun. 17, 2019 at approximately 7 p.m., the male victim was walking in the area of Kingscourt Avenue and First Avenue when he saw the accused man drive by in his pickup truck. Both individuals had known each other for around three years, and the victim had worked for the suspect for a brief period of time.

The accused man then started to yell at the victim for unknown reasons. The accused man turned his truck around and caught up to the victim. The accused man then pulled over, exited the vehicle, and grabbed a shovel from the bed of his truck and struck the victim with the shovel. The male accused continued to strike the male victim another three or four times. The victim sustained serious injuries and attended Kingston General Hospital following the encounter.

Upon police learning of the assault, the accused man was arrested at his residence on Tuesday, Jun. 18, 2019 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The 37-year-old local man has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon.
