Kingston Police lay assault charge after dispute over football turns violent

A local individual was arrested at a residence on Highway 15 in Kingston’s east end after an altercation over a football became violent.

According to a release from Kingston Police, around 6:14 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 4, 2023, police responded to the report of the altercation on Highway 15.

Reportedly, the accused had been staying at the residence and returned to collect some property. Police said that while at the residence, the accused attempted to take a football that had allegedly been purchased for a child.

“The disagreement over possession of the football became physical and the accused shoved the victim into a wall,” Kingston Police said. “The accused continued to attack the victim, striking her with his knees and then slapping and punching her in the face. The victim was able to get away from the accused and police were called.”

According to the release, responding officers located the accused outside the residence and arrested them. The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The accused was transported to police headquarters where they were released on conditions with a future court date.

The 27-year-old local individual was charged with assault.
