Kingston Police K-9 unit find taxi thief
The Kingston Police K-9 unit made quick work of an investigation into a stolen taxi on Saturday afternoon.
On December 22, 2018 at approximately 3:30 p.m., a Modern taxi driver made a quick stop in the city’s east end, near CFB Kingston. Upon returning outside, the driver discovered that his taxi cab had been stolen.
At approximately 6:30 p.m. witnesses returning to their east end home, discovered the cab parked in their driveway. Knowing no one should be at the home, the witnesses called police. Several officers including a K-9 unit responded and located the stolen cab in another nearby driveway. Less than thirty minutes later, the K-9 unit’s “Zeus” tracked the suspect to a wooded area, where he was found hiding behind a tree.
The suspect was treated by paramedics for a minor injury sustained while resisting arrest. He was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The 34-year-old local man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, prowling at night, and breach of probation.
