Kingston Police are investigating a report of a shooting near Collins Bay Penitentiary on Bath Road shortly before noon on Friday, Mar. 24, 2023.
According to eyewitnesses, a gray vehicle pulled into the Collins Bay Penitentiary property near Henry Traill Correctional Centre, where two suspects jumped out of the vehicle, and began shooting at two individuals who had been walking along the road.
In a statement, police confirmed a shooting in the area of Bath Road and Centennial Drive. The suspect vehicle was described by police as a grey Honda Civic, occupied by several armed black males last seen travelling northbound on Centennial Drive from Bath Road.
“If seen, please do not approach this vehicle and immediately contact 911,” police said.
The extent of the injuries was not immediately known but at least one victim was observed to have been taken to hospital by paramedics. Later, Kingston Police confirmed that one individual had sustained life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshot wounds in the incident. Police did not immediately provide any information on the condition of the alleged second victim.
Bath Road between Queen Mary Road and Tanner Drive remained closed to motorists until approximately 8 p.m., when the on-site investigation concluded.

The time of interest would be on or about the time of the shooting, 11:57 a.m., as well as shortly before and after the incident.
“Police believe that this was a targeted incident,” Kingston Police Media Relations Officer Ash Gutheinz said in a statement, “and are appreciative of any assistance that the community is able to provide.”
