Kingston Police disperse 2,000-person street party on University Avenue

Kingston Police had a busy evening, laying more than 10 Part 1 Summons’ and arresting four individuals during a street party on University Avenue in the early morning hours of Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021. Approximately 2,000 individuals were gathered at the street party.
At 12:10 a.m. Kingston Police announced to party-goers that University Avenue was declared a Nuisance Party over the PA in a police cruiser. The roadway was not cleared until approximately 1:30 a.m., according to police.
Kingston Police provided the following details regarding enforcement at the gathering:
- 4 arrests and subsequent PONs (Provincial Offence Notice) for being intoxicated in a public place
- 10 Part 1 Summons for having open alcohol
- 1 Part 1 Summons for Person Under 19 having/consuming alcohol
As a result of this nuisance party the City of Kingston, along with Kingston Police, have closed the Gord Downie Pier and Breakwater Park beach area for the next 18 days. Fencing will be installed and anyone found in the area could face fines under the City’s Administrative Monetary Penalties (AMPs) for failure to comply with an emergency order. I will remember this level of stupidity when asked by Queen’s University fundraisers for a donation. Student behaviour has an effect on how alumni support their alma mater.
Hardly a crackdown on events associated with Queen’s students but better than nothing.
I really really want to see Queens get serious and kick out some of these entitled selfish young people. The police are doing everything they can within the law. Come on Queens, step up and show you’re serious!
