Kingston Police confirm body found in Plaza Hotel

Update (Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020): Kingston Police do not believe this death was suspicious in nature.

“The death does not appear suspicious in nature and the carriage of the investigation moving forward will be with the coroner’s office,” said Const. Ash Gutheinz, media relations officer for Kingston Police.

Kingston Police have confirmed that a person was found deceased in a room at the Plaza Hotel in downtown Kingston.

The body of a male was discovered on the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 in one of the month-to-month rental rooms above the gentleman’s club and bar. Kingston Police said the case is now in the hands of the Ontario Coroner’s Office in Kingston.

“Kingston Police will be liaising with the coroner’s office as this will now be a coroner’s case,” said Const. Ash Gutheinz, media relations officer for Kingston Police.

Kingston Police Major Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit responded to the case, and were on scene at the Plaza Hotel for a few hours.

Police are not ruling out any foul play at this time, and do not know if the death is suspicious in nature, however, there is no risk to public safety at this time.

“The coroner’s office will determine the cause of death,” Gutheinz said.
