Kingston Police charge impaired driver who drove off following collision

A Kingston man has been arrested and charged after he struck another vehicle and proceeded to continue driving in the west end of the city last night.
The incident began when a witness noticed the accused man as he was stopped in his vehicle at the intersection of Taylor Kidd Boulevard and Centennial Drive at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Apr. 4, 2019. As she was stopped next to the accused man at a red light, the witness observed the accused appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel. When the light turned green, the accused man swerved into the witness’s vehicle, striking it on the passenger side bumper.
After the collision, the accused man failed to stop or make any attempt to exchange information with the witness, instead continuing to drive. The witness followed the accused man as he swerved in and out of his lane, eventually coming to a west end residence where the accused parked his vehicle.
Responding officers arrived at the residence at approximately 7:34 p.m., where they observed the accused man displaying obvious signs of being impaired b alcohol.
The 59-year-old local man was arrested and later released on conditions with a future court date. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident, impaired operation of a conveyance, and impaired operation of a conveyance with a blood alcohol content exceeding the legal concentration.
