Kingston Police charge driver after collision with restaurant

In the early morning hours, officers with Kingston Police were dispatched to a reported collision with a building – a collision that wouldn’t take long for those at police headquarters to get to.

Just before 3 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2023, Kingston Police, Kingston Fire & Rescue, and Frontenac Paramedics were all dispatched to the scene of the collision, where a truck had crashed into the front of New Garden Restaurant, located at 779 Division Street – which can be seen from the public entrance into Kingston Police Headquarters at 705 Division Street.

The collision resulted in extensive damage to the building, resulting in the restaurant announcing it would be closed indefinitely at approximately 10:30 a.m. in a post on Facebook.

“Sorry closed until further notice,” the restaurant said, with the following photos included in the post.

While a complete collision report was not yet available, Kingston Police disclosed that officers attended a building in the 700 block of Division Street at approximately 2:40 a.m. The 32-year-old driver of the truck was charged with careless driving, according to Constable Ash Gutheinz, Media Relations Officer for Kingston Police.

Kingstonist has inquired with Kingston Fire & Rescue as to the condition of the building and what their crews found upon arrival.
