UPDATED: Kingston Police ask public to be on lookout for murder suspect

UPDATE: Kingston Police say John McKenna has been found and taken into custody.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE: The Kingston Police Major Crime Unit is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect believed to be involved in a homicide in downtown Kingston. According to Kingston Police, John McKenna, 26 years of age, is currently wanted for the murder of a 29-year-old male on the morning of Saturday, Apr. 9, 2022.

Kingston Police and Frontenac Paramedics responded to an apartment residence in the 70 block of Durham Street at around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning after a male was found with vital signs absent. Police say McKenna was seen leaving the area. “McKenna was last seen on foot in the area of Durham Street, near MacDonnell Street, in downtown Kingston,” said Kingston Police in a press release. According to police, McKenna was last seen wearing a green jacket, dark jeans, and running shoes.

“His current whereabouts are unknown and he should not be approached,” police cautioned. “Members of the public are urged to call 9-1-1 if he is observed or if they have information.”
