Kingston man facing 12 charges after police learn of ongoing domestic violence

An incident involving harassment and threats with a knife led Kingston Police to discover a history of domestic violence – and an arrest and charges for a local man.

Police were called to a residence in Kingston’s north end on Friday, Mar. 22, 2019. There, the female victim was at her friend’s house, and began receiving text messages repeatedly from the accused man. The victim and the accused man had been in a relationship for the past 10 months, during which there had been several incidents of domestic abuse. After harassing the victim with text messages, the accused man arrived at the residence the victim was visiting. The accused man knocked on the door, and was confronted by the victim’s male friend – the second victim – who asked the accused man to leave the property. The accused man refused to do so, and then brandished a knife, threatening to stab the male victim.

Responding police located the accused man. The ensuing investigation found a series of domestic abuse incidents dating back to the beginning of the relationship.

During the first incident, the accused man punched the victim, and then struck her head against a bed frame until she was unconscious.

Another incident saw the accused kick the victim violently in the stomach, leaving her gasping on the ground and unable to breathe after having the wind knocked out of her.

Additionally, Police learned that on at least four occasions, the accused had grabbed the victim by the throat during arguments and held her until she was gasping for air.

During yet another incident, the accused wedged a door shut, leaving the victim confined to a room until the following day when he release her.

But the history of incidents didn’t stop there. Police learned that on at least three occasions, the accused man had destroyed phones belonging to the victim. He has also threatened to kill her id she decided to leave him.

Lastly, police also discovered that during the 10 months, the accused had also been violent towards the victim’s cat, choking it, and kicking it in the face and body.

The 28-year-old Kingston man was charged with:

• Assault causing bodily harm
• Two counts of assault
• Forcible confinement
• Mischief under $5,000
• Two counts of uttering threats
• Wounding an animal
• Two counts of criminal harassment
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace.
