Kingston man charged after assault victim requires emergency surgery
A local man has been arrested following a scuffle and an argument that led to a serious assault in a busy outdoor area of downtown Kingston.

The incident occurred on Sunday, Apr. 3, 2022, when the now-charged suspect and the victim, “engaged in an altercation,” in the area of Division Street between Brock and Johnson Streets. The two men were outdoors when the accused man stated that the victim had betrayed his trust – the pair were previously acquaintances, Kingston Police said in a press release on Monday, Apr. 4, 2022.
According to police, the victim objected to the accusation and denied having broken the trust of the other man, who responded by demanding that they fight. The victim refused to fight, “and explained to the accused [man] that he was willing to speak with him in order to resolve the disagreement,” Kingston Police said.
The male suspect then initiated a physical altercation, striking the victim in the face. While the victim did not fight back, he attempted to defend himself, police said, and the assailant continued the offensive, punching the victim in the face and knocking out multiple teeth. The punch also rendered the victim unconscious on the ground.
Kingston Police received a report of the assault at approximately 5:20 p.m. that day.
The victim was taken to Kingston General Hospital (KGH) for assessment and treatment of his injuries, which were serious in nature, according to police, who also noted that the victim required emergency dental surgery as a result of the violent attack.
Armed with the identification of the suspect, police attended his residence in an attempt to locate him at approximately 7:05 p.m. the same day. The man was at his residence at the time, and he was placed under arrest for the assault at approximately 7:25 p.m., police said.
As a result, Caspin Stillwell, 24, of Kingston was taken to Kingston Police Headquarters, where he was later released on conditions with a future court date. He is charged with aggravated assault.
