Kingston man arrested for Toronto robbery

Still from surveillance footage released by Toronto Police of a robbery that occurred in a condo building in Toronto. A Kingston man has now been arrested as a result of the robbery investigation.

A Kingston man has been arrested as the result of a robbery investigation that has been carried out by Toronto Police since Saturday, Jun. 1, 2019.

The robbery occurred on the first day of June in the elevator of a condo building in the St. Clair Avenue West and Avenue Road area of Toronto. The incident involved a man following a woman into the elevator, where he indicated he had a weapon, and then assaulted the woman, robbing her of her purse before fleeing the scene.

Toronto Police responded to the incident, and, at the time, they issued a police brief and released the surveillance footage of the incident, asking for public assistance to identify the suspect. Toronto Police also advised the public to call 911 if the suspect was not to be approached if located, as he was considered armed and dangerous.

The ongoing investigation led Toronto Police to arrest 23-year-old John McKenna of Kingston on Thursday, Jul. 11, 2019. McKenna is charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Uttering threats of bodily harm
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Failure to comply with a probation order
  • Use of a credit card obtained by crime
  • Criminal Harassment – Watch and Beset

McKenna will appear in court at College Park on Wednesday, Jul. 24, 2019, at 9 a.m., in room 501.
