Kingston man arrested for multiple South Frontenac cottage break-ins
The Ontario Provincial Police have arrested a 26-year-old Kingston man in connection to numerous break and enters, as well as thefts, at cottages in South Frontenac Township.
In April and May of this year, the Township’s area of Thirty Island Lake “experienced a significant amount” of these break-ins, with stolen items including boats, trailers, ATVs and snowmobiles.
As the investigation unfolded, South Frontenac OPP located and seize a motor vehicle “suspected to be involved in the break and enters,” on the morning of Friday, May 18, according to a press release from the OPP. The driver/suspect was not located at the time. Subsequently, the Frontenac, Napanee, and Prince Edward County Community Street Crime Units executed a search warrant at the suspects cottage. The following items were recovered:
- Eight boats
- Two jet skis
- Two ATVs
- A snowmobile
- A pickup truck
- Several trailers
- Power tools
Four unsafely stored firearms were also seized.
The following day (May 19), the male suspect was arrested by OPP and Kingston Police in the City of Kingston for property crime offences. The male was in possession of crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, and had also breached a court order of recognizance. Peter Carreiro of Kingston was charged with 27 criminal offences.
The accused remains in custody, according to OPP.
