A local man who created a dangerous scene at an apartment building in central Kingston has been arrested and charged, according to police.

At approximately 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, Jul. 20, 2023, police received reports of a man throwing knives at people off a balcony at the Bayswater Place apartment building, located just off of Bath Road in the Polson Park area. According to witness reports, the man was under the influence of drugs, police said in a press release later the same day.

“As responding officers approached the rear of the building the accused pointed a firearm at them,” said Kingston Police, who did not know at that time that the firearm being pointed at them was a replica firearm and not a real firearm.

“The officers took cover and called for backup. Eventually police convinced the accused to drop the firearm. The officers then responded to the apartment and arrested him after a brief struggle without further incident.”

According to police, “numerous hunting knives and two firearms both found to be replicas were located on the ground” below the apartment balcony.

The 35-year-old man was transported to Kingston Police Headquarters and charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of pointing a firearm, and possession of weapons dangerous to public peace, police said.
