Kingston Police have arrested two people after their search for a man wanted in relation to “multiple firearms related offences” led to finding that man with woman, and both were found to be in possession of illegal items.

According to police, the Kingston Police Street Crime Unit was searching for the accused man on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2021, when they located him with a female around Bath Road and Concession Street (the old traffic circle).

Both parties were taken into custody, and a search of the accused parties found them to be in possession of a loaded handgun, a large amount of crystal methamphetamine, a large amount of fentanyl, and Canadian currency.

Justin Thompson, 26, and Sarah Lovelace, 30, both of Kingston, were jointly charged with multiple firearms and drug trafficking charges as a result, according to Kingston Police.

On Friday, Aug. 20, 2021, Kingston Police provided a full list of the charges laid against the pair.

Thompson was charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded, regulated firearm
  • Possession of a restricted weapon knowing no authority
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • Three counts of possession a firearm while prohibited
  • Three counts of breach of probation

Lovelace was charged with:

  • Possession of a loaded, regulated firearm
  • Possession of a restricted weapon knowing no authority
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Two counts of possession of a Schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of the proceeds of crime under $5,000
  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Two counts of breach of probation

Both Thompson and Lovelace were remanded into custody following bail hearings on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021. The above charges against Thompson stem solely from this incident. Thompson was being sought by police following an incident on the night of Monday, Aug. 16, 2021, which occurred at a residence on Montreal Street in Kingston’s north end. According to police, Thompson left the scene before police arrived that night, however, after further investigation by Kingston Police, he was being sought for pointing a firearm during the incident, and assault with a weapon. Thompson will be charged separately for offences related to that incident.

These arrests occurred just a few days after a drug search warrant was executed on Barrie Street, resulting in the arrest of a Kingston woman and two men from the Greater Toronto Area, and the seizure of a loaded semiautomatic handgun, crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine. It also comes one week after a 43-year-old Kingston man was murdered by gunfire after a weapons offence in the area of Fergus and Concession Streets.
