Kingston IKEA ‘Collection Point’ remaining open amid Ontario closures

IKEA Canada says it is keeping the Kingston Collection Point open amid closures of several of its pick-up point locations across Ontario.

The Swedish big-box retail giant announced it will be closing all of its pick-up point stores across Ontario as of Jan. 29.

About 150 employees in Kitchener, London, Windsor, St. Catharines and Whitby will be affected.

But the Kingston location, located at 192 Hickson Ave, will remain unaffected by the restructuring. The Kingston location is a “Collection Point”, which allows customers to collect their online order at partner locations for a flat-fee of $39.

“The closure announcement concerns our Pick-up and Order Point units, which are a different concept than Collection Points, like in Kingston,” said IKEA spokesperson Kristin Newbigging in a statement clarifying the fate of the similar but distinct outlet concepts. “With that in mind, it is business as usual at our Kingston Collection Point.”
