The Kingston Humane Society (KHS) will be returning to an in-person Big Paws event later this month. On Saturday, Sep. 25, 2021, pets and their owners are invited to City Park to walk and raise funds to improve the lives of pets in our community.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back some of our biggest supporters and our most famous alumni dogs,” KHS said in a media release. “This year, for the first time in our history, we’ll be gathering downtown at City Park. Big Paws has been a flagship fundraising event for 24 years and it’s always something the community looks forward to.”

After being forced to go virtual in 2020, the KHS said they are excited to invite dog owners and dog lovers alike to participate in this annual pledge walk. The event itself is a guided 2 km walk through historic downtown Kingston but the organization said it’s also so much more than that.

“This year’s festivities will feature a vendor market filled with more than 30 local businesses, along with interactive activities, a silent auction and the chance to win prizes,” KHS explained. “Participants can collect pledges ahead of time, either online or by cash/cheque and all are encouraged to bring their pets, but anyone can join in.”

Registration will open in the park at 9:30 a.m., and the guided walk will begin at 11 a.m. KHS said that walkers can start a pledge page online, or print the pledge form, and present it with the pledge money at the registration table on the day of the event.

Each walker is asked to raise a minimum of $25 to participate. All of the funds raised at Big Paws in City Park will go towards life-saving surgeries, veterinary care and equipment, medications, pet ownership education, and everything else KHS needs to support the neglected, abandoned and abused animals in the community, according to the release.

“We’re overjoyed to finally bring Big Paws back into the community and we’re grateful for all the support we’ve received so far,” said KHS.
