The Hotel Dieu Hospital (HDH) site of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre (KCHC) is increasing its in-person outpatient clinic visits starting today, Tuesday, Jun. 23, 2020.
Though HDH has been maintaining 80 per cent of their volume through the pandemic, only 40 per cent of those appointments were being conducted in person, with the balance completed by telephone (48 per cent) or through video as an e-visit (12 per cent), according to KHSC.
“KHSC expects to return gradually to its regular volume of clinic appointments first at the HDH site in the coming weeks,” noted KHSC in a statement, adding that the increase will follow at outpatient areas of the Kingston General Hospital (KGH) site.
While in-person appointments will increase, KHSC is limiting them to half of pre-pandemic volumes, which will allow them to meet the required physical distancing guidelines.
“Health-care providers will rely on telephone and e-visits to provide certain types of care,” KHSC shared, “such as follow-up appointments that don’t require a face-to-face physical examination.”
Patients attending an outpatient appointment, however, should prepare to attend alone rather than accompanied with a family member, as ongoing visitor restrictions continue to limit access to the hospitals.
Additional measures remain in place at KHSC sites, as well, such as requiring a mask to be worn, COVID-19 screening at entrances, limitations of people in elevators and seating areas, safe distance floor markers and an abundance of hand sanitation stations.
