The Kingston Frontenacs have named Troy Mann as their new head coach, according to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) franchise.

The Frontenacs announced the filling of the foremost position on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, noting that 54-year-old Mann brings “professional coaching experience” to the team, having served as a head coach in both the American Hockey League and the ECHL (the former East Coast Hockey League, which has teams in both the US and Canada). According to a press release from the Kingston Frontenacs, Mann has served as head coach for the Columbia Inferno (ECHL, 2006-2008), the Bakersfield Condors (ECHL, 2013-2014), the Hershey Bears (AHL, 2014-2018), and the Belleville Senators (AHL, 2018-2023). Mann has accumulated over 400 wins as a head coach, the Frontenacs said.

“The Kingston Frontenacs are pleased to welcome Troy Mann as the Head Coach of the Kingston Frontenacs,” said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper in a statement.

“Troy brings experience to our team, a track record of developing players and a winning pedigree. Bringing in a coach of Troy’s caliber is a credit to our ownership group and shows their commitment to bringing a winning hockey team to the City of Kingston.”

The Frontenacs pointed out Mann’s influence in helping the 2009-2010 Hershey Bears secure the 2010 Calder Cup as an assistant coach, as well as his 150-117-15-7 record in 289 games behind the bench.

“Being able to hire a coach with Troy’s experience, especially as our season is underway, was an attractive part to making him the head coach of the Frontenacs,” said Cooper. “We have a talented group of players and Troy will be able to come in, work with them and elevate them as individuals and as a team. I have experience working with Troy and I have seen firsthand the leadership and development he brings to an organization.”

Mann assumes the position immediately, and will be behind the Frontenacs’ bench this coming Friday, Oct. 27, 2023, as the Frontenacs host Hockey Fights Cancer Night and take on the Oshawa Generals at home in the Leon’s Centre.
