Kingston Fire and Rescue tackle spreading fire at Weller Avenue address

It was a busy morning for those with Kingston Fire and Rescue after a fire broke out at a townhome on Weller Avenue in the early morning hours.
Just after 4 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2020, crews from Kingston Fire and Rescue responded to the fire at 264/266 Weller Avenue. According to the local fire department, the first officer on the scene reported heavy smoke coming from the two-storey townhouse. The fire was centred in the basement area of the residence, however, it spread to reach the first floor and into the west wall of the building.

Kingston Fire and Rescue reports that there was no one home at the time of the fire. Crews remained on scene for a number of hours, ensuring the fire and subsequent hot spots were extinguished. The fire was fully extinguished by about noon, eight hours after the crews arrived at the scene.
Fire inspectors with Kingston Fire and Rescue are currently investigating the cause of the fire, and the cost of damages remains undetermined at this time.
