Officers with the Prince Edward County (PEC) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid charges following a single vehicle collision just north of Demorestville in the Sophiasburgh Township of PEC.

According to the PEC OPP, the incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Monday, Jun. 10, 2024, when a vehicle travelling on County Road 14 left the road, “striking and damaging a hydro pole and a fence.” The incident occurred on County Road 14 between Lornas Lane and Crofton Road, police said in a press release the following day.

The driver did not report any injuries, and police stated that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. In response to Kingstonist inquiries, Bill Dickson, Media Relations Coordinator for the OPP East Region, said that Hydro One attended the scene for repairs, and that no power outage resulted from the collision.

“It snapped the pole, but the lines remained intact,” Dickson explained.

As a result of the ensuing investigation, a 34-year-old man from Kingston was charged with careless driving, according to the PEC OPP.
