Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement, advising of possible significant rainfall for the Kingston area from the remnants of Hurricane Nicole. The rainfall is expected to begin in the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 11, 2022.

Specifically, the statement has been issued for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton and Sandbanks Park.

“The remnants of Hurricane Nicole are expected to track towards Southern Ontario reaching the area Friday afternoon,” Environment Canada said. “Heavy rain is expected to result in rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm with the highest amounts falling Friday evening. Rain is expected to taper to scattered showers Saturday morning.”

The national weather agency noted that total rainfall amounts are uncertain as “the exact path of the remnants of Nicole is somewhat uncertain.” Flash flooding and water pooling may occur due to heavy rainfall.

Environment Canada noted that reduced visibility is possible in heavy rain. “If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” the weather agency said.
