KFPL to host MAW: A Community Celebration of the Vocal Arts

Tone Deaf Kingston, Ontario’s annual festival of adventurous sound performance, has partnered with King Con and Kingston Frontenac Public Library (KFPL) to present MAW: A Community Celebration of the Vocal Arts.
This special Kingston-edition of comics author and artist Georgia Webber’s immersive concert series, “MAW,” will take place Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020 on KFPL’s Zoom account.
The event celebrates the human voice in all its permutations, according to a release from KFPL, dated Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020.
Often blurring the roles of audience and performer, “MAW: A Community Celebration of the Vocal Arts” brings together an array of vocalists who might otherwise never identify as a community so that they may perform and reflect on their vocal arts, according to Graeme Langdon, Teen and New Adult Librarian, Programming and Outreach for KFPL.
At this Kingston edition of MAW, locals Nikolas Yuen, a voiceover artist and actor, and Time Victim, a musician who builds soundscapes with vocal loops will be performing. In addition, there will also be two unique vocalists who have previously performed in Kingston at past Tone Deaf Festivals: liturgical singer Cormac Culkeen of hymnal drone duo Joyful Joyful; and composer and interdisciplinary artist Anne Bourne. According to the release, each performer will demonstrate their vocal art and then speak with Webber about their craft.
“KFPL is thrilled to collaborate with eminent partners to present a local edition of an established concert series celebrating artists who work outside our immediate conceptions of the vocal arts,” said KFPL’s Teen and New Adult Services Librarian, Graeme Langdon.
This interactive online program will be held via the library’s Zoom account on Saturday, Dec. 12, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Registration will close four hours prior to the event, and registrants will be sent the link at least 30 minutes prior to the start time. It is recommended that participants and attendees download Zoom in advance.
