KASSAA announces no inter-school sports for fall

The Kingston Area Secondary School Atheletic Association (KASSAA) released a statement Tuesday, Aug 18, 2020, announcing there will be no inter-school athletics for the fall season.

KASSAA works in concert with the four local school boards to provide extra-curricular leagues for students of the schools. Because the coming school year will be quite different, and the School Boards are prioritizing the safe return of students and staff, the introduction of inter-school athletics would not support the Boards’ efforts to minimize student contacts, read the release.

As well, OFSAA, the provincial governing body of high school sport, has cancelled their fall events.

According to the release, while KASSAA is keen to see student athletes return to play, it is not something they are able to offer at this point. They will continue to monitor the local situation, and converse with the School Boards and other local and regional associations throughout the province.
