K9 catches two men suspected of tampering with train signals

Two Kingston men have been arrested and charged after a Kingston Police K9 unit was called in to investigate disrupted rail signals in the city’s east end.

A CN services employee was dispatched to rail lines east of Findlay Station Road on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019. The employee was investigating a disruption in train service due to issues with train signals, and discovered that several sections of wires had been cut and removed. After discovering an apparently abandoned vehicle parked next to a signal control building, the CN worker contact police.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. that day, a Kingston Police K9 unit attended the scene. The K9 unit conducted a track that went on for several hundred meters along the railway, Kingston Police said. The track then continued over a fence, through a wooded area, and across a large open field before locating the two accused men hiding in the bush line.

Both men were arrested and taken to Kingston Police Headquarters, where they were later released on conditions with future court dates.

A 56-year-old man and a 57-year-old man were jointly charged with mischief over $5,000, and theft.
