Junior Gaels seek volunteer coaches for U14 and U17 competitive girls’ teams

The Junior Gaels soccer club (Jr. Gaels) is in need of volunteers for two teams in its competitive program, as the 2023 season soon gets underway. According to Jr. Gaels competitive Head Coach Christian Hoefler, the club is seeking volunteer coaches for the U14 and U17 girls’ teams.
“At this point… we are keen to find two to three individuals who have experience… playing and/or coaching competitively,” he said.
In terms of specific qualifications, Hoefler noted that competitive experience with the age groups would be an asset. “Coaching and playing experience at the 13-18 competitive age level is a bonus. [However], coaching qualifications vary, [so] we cover the costs of all required certifications, if there are any.”
As for the time commitment, Hoefler said coaches should prepare to commit “three to four hours per week,” which includes “two training sessions and one game.” Coaches may also be required for select weekends throughout the summer, due to tournaments or rescheduled games. The season runs from June to the end of August, with a potential for further coaching from September to April.
The club, formally known as the Cataraqui Clippers, was rebranded as the Jr. Gaels in 2018 through a partnership with Queen’s Gaels athletics. In 2023, the organization will field teams in a number of competitive leagues across several different age groups. The U14 and U17 girls’ teams will be playing in either the Southern Ontario Soccer Association (SOSA) or the Eastern Ontario District Soccer Association (EODSA) districts, with the potential for EODSA regional-level play, as well.
As a not-for-profit youth sporting organization, the Jr. Gaels rely on volunteer coaches and other participants to make the teams a success.
“We have seen the enormous impact volunteer coaches have made to our players progressing, not only on the field of play but, most importantly, off it,” said Hoefler. “The players are extremely coachable and grateful for all the opportunities afforded to them. We support all of our coaches and provide them with wonderful opportunities to further develop their skills.”
Prospective coaches will be required to submit a criminal background check before successfully joining the team. With the season beginning soon, the Jr. Gaels are looking to fill the vacancies as soon as possible. Interested applicants are encouraged to reach out to Christian Hoefler at [email protected].
