Intoxicated male facing charges after assaulting two police officers

A local man is facing charges after attempting to attack Kingston Police officers while intoxicated.
At approximately 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021 police responded to a call regarding an intoxicated male who was out of control at a residence on Churchill Street in midtown Kingston. According to a report from Kingston Police, dated Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2021, officers arrived shortly and found the male being restrained on the ground by his friends for his own safety.
Police attempted to speak with the male accused who, after being released by his friends, immediately attempted to attack the officers by punching and kicking them, according to the release. The accused was restrained, but police say he continued to kick, scratch and bite at the officers. During the arrest one officer sustained minor injuries to the face after being struck by the accused.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he continued to be uncooperative and aggressive toward the arresting officers, according to the report. He was subsequently held in custody to attend a bail hearing the following day.
A 20-year-old local man was charged with two counts of assaulting a peace officer.
