Inmate death reported at Bath Institution Regional Treatment Centre

An inmate from Bath Institution’s Regional Treatment Centre has died while in the custody of Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

According to the CSC, John White died on Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was 44 years old, and passed away from apparent natural causes. White had been serving an indeterminate sentence, which began on February 15, 2019, for second degree murder.

White’s next of kin have been notified, CSC said.

This is the second death at the Bath Institution Regional Treatment Centre in less than a month. On Apr. 21, 2022, a 51-year-old inmate also passed away from apparent natural causes.

In a media release dated Friday, May 13, 2022, CSC stated that, as in all cases involving the death of an inmate, CSC will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
