Inmate death at Millhaven Institution reported by CSC

An inmate from Millhaven Institution has died while in the custody of the Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

According to CSC, Taran Morrison died on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024. At the time of his death, Morrison, 41, had been serving a sentence of three years, five months and 27 days for robbery, three counts of break and enter, mischief, and carrying a concealed weapon. Morrison began serving that sentence on Jan. 19, 2021, CSC said.

“At this time, further information regarding the cause of death is not available. A quality of care review will be conducted to examine the facts surrounding the offender’s death, and the cause of death will be determined by the Coroner,” said Kerry Gatien, Media Relations and Outreach Advisor for CSC.

Morrison’s next of kin have been notified.

In a media release dated Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, CSC stated that, as in all cases involving the death of an inmate, they will review the circumstances. CSC policy requires that the police and the coroner be notified.
