Inmate charged following assault of fellow inmate at Millhaven Institution

A serious assault at Millhaven Institution earlier this week has resulted in charges for an inmate already in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)-led Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad has laid charges after the assault which took place on Monday, Apr. 15, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., according to a release from the OPP.

“An inmate suffered serious injuries when he was assaulted with an edged weapon. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment and is recovering,” the OPP detailed.

According to the release, the CSC contacted the Penitentiary Squad following the incident and has assisted with the investigation.

Yesterday, Thursday, Apr. 18, 2024, members of the Penitentiary Squad arrested inmate Ekene Angibo, age 24, and charged him with:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Carrying a concealed weapon

The OPP said that Angibo remains in the custody of the Correctional Service of Canada and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on April 19, 2024.
