Inmate charged after assault against a correctional officer at Millhaven

After an investigation involving Correctional Service Canada (CSC) and the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) into the assault of a correctional officer, an inmate at Millhaven Institution has been charged.

The Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad was called into Millhaven Institution, a maximum security prison located in Loyalist Township, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, to investigate the assault against a correctional officer. The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital.

The ensuing investigation was conducted by the Joint Forces Penitentiary Squad with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Until, according to a press release from the OPP. As a result of the investigation, inmate Colton Ferguson, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused inmate remains in custody and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018.
