Picton man facing charges after driving while impaired

A Picton man is charged with impaired driving after OPP received a report of a possible drunk driver travelling westbound on Highway 401.

At approximately 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on 401 westbound, according to a release from the OPP dated Friday, Oct. 9, 2020.  Police located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop west of Deseronto Road.

OPP officers used an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and the driver was taken to the L&A County Detachment for further testing.

As a result, Donald William King, age 56, of Picton has been charged with

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs; and,
  • Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in December 2020. King’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
