Impaired driving charges laid after driver stops in intersection

A Prince Edward County man is facing impaired driving charges after stopping his vehicle in an intersection in Picton.
Shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Mar. 11, 2021, members from The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in an intersection in Picton, according to a release from OPP dated Thursday, Mar. 11, 2021.
OPP say officers located the vehicle and spoke to the driver. As a result of further investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing. Austin Roberts, age 32 from Prince Edward County, was arrested and charged with:
- Operation While Impaired
- Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Possession of over 30g of dried cannabis in a public place
The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton in April, 2021. The driver was also given a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Roberts will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
