An out-of-town driver is facing charges after hitting a mailbox and driving through a roundabout at the intersection of County Road 4 and County Road 2.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to the traffic complaint of a possible impaired driver who had struck signs and shrubs and was now parked on the shoulder of County Road 4 after driving through the roundabout on County Road 2.
According to a release from the OPP, the vehicle was located at the scene and the lone male driver was uninjured and showing signs of impairment. He was subsequently arrested.
As a result of this investigation, L&A County OPP has charged Gary Gonclaves, age 42, of Oakville, Ontario, with:
- Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit
- Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs/alcohol
- Operating a motor vehicle while prohibited
- Failure to remain at the scene of a collision
Gonclaves was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee later this month. The accused driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days (and will face further suspension if convicted), and their vehicle was impounded for seven days. Gonclaves will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
