Impaired driver facing charges after traffic stop in Deseronto

Members of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged a driver with impaired driving.
At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, officers were conducting traffic enforcement on Main Street in Deseronto when a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle.
According to a release from the OPP, as part of an investigation, an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered, and the driver was subsequently arrested and transported to the L&A County Detachment for further testing.
Robert Williams, 57 years old, of Madoc, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
- Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
Williams was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee later this month. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Williams will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
