Impaired driver crashes through garage in Battersea

A collision in South Frontenac Township has led to charges for a Kingston driver who plowed through a garage in Battersea.
The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. on the evening of Wednesday, Jun. 21, 2023, on Battersea Cross Street, a short crossroad off of Battersea Road in the heart of the rural hamlet of Battersea. Officers from the Frontenac County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with crews from South Frontenac Fire and Rescue, attended the scene, where they found a pickup truck had “drove through a detached garage, causing significant damage,” according to Acting Sgt. Erin Cranton of the East Region OPP.
According to Cranton, there were two people in the truck, which was the only vehicle involved in the incident. No injuries were sustained due to the crash.
As a result of the ensuing investigation, 21-year-old Tracey Klengenberg of Kingston was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, as well as impaired operation of a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit. Klengenberg’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days, and they will face an extended licence suspension if convicted.
Klengenberg was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in late July 2023.
