Impaired driver collides with house in Loyalist Township, flees scene

Members of the Lennox and Addington Detachment (L&A) of the Ontario Provincial Police have arrested and charged one person after a vehicle collided with a house on County Road 4 in Loyalist Township.
At approximately 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Apr. 29, 2022, officers received multiple traffic complaints of a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. According to a release from the OPP, the vehicle was observed driving over the traffic circle at County Road 2 and County Road 4, Loyalist Township, before hitting a nearby house.

Officers attended the scene and were advised that the driver had fled on foot prior to police arrival, OPP said.
OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine Unit were called to assist, however officers were able to locate the driver a short time later, according to the release. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result, Kurtis Ackerman, age 35, of Odessa, Ontario, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation
- Fail to remain – Highway Traffic Act
Ackerman was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee later this month. His licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Ackerman will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
According to OPP, no one was injured during the collision.
