Impaired driver arrested by police responding to domestic disturbance

While responding to a report of a domestic dispute, OPP stop and arrest an impaired driver, who was also the subject of the domestic dispute call.
At approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020, officers of the Lennox and Addington (L&A) County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic dispute on County Road 5 in Loyalist Township, according to a report from OPP, dated Monday, Nov. 30, 2020.
While on route, officers located a vehicle travelling in an erratic manner and initiated a traffic stop westbound on County Road 1. OPP say the investigation determined that the driver was also the subject of the domestic complaint, and the officers subsequently arrested the individual on suspicion of impaired driving. He was transported to the detachment for testing.
As a result of the investigation L&A County OPP have charged a 54 year old male from Greater Napanee contrary to the criminal code with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs,
- Operating a motor vehicle while over legal blood alcohol limit, and;
- Spousal assault – two counts
The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Greater Napanee in January 2021. The accused person’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will be responsible for all related fees and fines.
