Holy Cross athlete signed to Trent University Women’s Rugby Team

Local student-athlete, Tatem Dawson, has been signed to the Trent University Women’s Rugby Team for fall 2024.

According to a release from the Algonquin Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB), the Holy Cross student was joined by representatives from Trent University for the official signing on to the rugby team on Wednesday, Apr. 17, 2024.

Dawson currently plays rugby for Holy Cross and the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union. In the fall, she will attend Trent both to play the sport she loves and to study chemical engineering, ALCDSB shared.

“I couldn’t have done this all without the support from my friends, family and coaches,” Dawson said at the signing.

Dawson’s family, friends, and coaches were present for the signing, ALCDSB noted, adding that Dawson looks forward to having the support of a team when studying at university.

Trent University’s website notes that with the women’s rugby team there has always been a strong family dynamic. As expected, teammates often bond both on and off the field through a variety of activities, including team dinners the night before a game, and attending other local events together.

The university states that Trent women’s rugby is a well-established program that “prides itself on traditions from the past.”

“Each year at the end of August, Trent Women’s Rugby hosts a training camp where players and coaches come together and get pushed to maximum levels of fitness,” the website detailed. “Once the team is decided, players undergo practices five days a week with a majority of the games taking place on Saturdays.”

“Congratulations Tatem!” said ALCDSB, and Kingstonist heartily agrees.
