Highway 7 to close near Sharbot Lake for recovery of tractor-trailer

A single vehicle collision on Highway 7 westbound near Sharbot Lake resulted in a careless driving charge for a Brampton man.

According to a release from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers were dispatched to the collision near Gibbs Road, approximately 10 km west of Sharbot Lake, just after 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 9, 2024.

“The vehicle went through some guard rails and rolled over onto its side. The cargo was not hazardous, as it was a load of carpets,” the OPP detailed.

“The driver was able to get out and suffered minor injuries requiring a hospital check-up.”

OPP said that the 30-year-old male from Brampton was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

According to the release, the tractor-trailer will be removed today, Wednesday, Apr. 10, 2024, requiring a full road closure of Highway 7 in the afternoon with the assistance of the Ministry of Transportation.

“A detour route will be put in place until the removal is complete. It’s unknown at this time what the planned detour route will be. Social media will be used to announce that route,” OPP shared.
