High winds and heavy downpours possible for Kingston and area

UPDATE (5:40 p.m.): The Environment Canada special weather statement for Kingston and the area has now ended.

Environment Canada has issued a second special weather statement for Kingston and the area on Wednesday, Jul. 17, 2019.

The national weather agency is advising that a line of showers and thunderstorms extending north of Cobourg to north of Cornwall is moving south.

“Some of the thunderstorms may produce winds gusts of 60 km/h and local heavy downpours which may give rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm in an hour or less,” Environment Canada said in the statement at 3:45 p.m.

The special weather statement is in effect for Kingston, Odessa, Frontenac Islands, Napanee, Consecon, Picton, and Sandbanks Park.
