Gaels ready for big weekend in men’s hockey and volleyball

It’s a big weekend ahead for the Queen’s Gaels and their fans, and both the Men’s Hockey and Men’s Volleyball teams host cup championships on Saturday, Mar. 9, 2019.
The Gaels Men’s Hockey team will host the Queen’s Cup for the first time in 30 years on Saturday, bringing the Guelph Gryphons to the Memorial Centre to compete for the second oldest ice hockey trophy still being awarded – second only to the Stanley Cup.
Ahead of this big game, Rob Baker and Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip – both self-confessed Gaels fans – met with Coach Brett Gibson at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday, Mar. 6, 2019. The three men then joined the Men’s Hockey team practice to help boost morale and excitement on the way to the 108th edition of the Queen’s Cup.
“Congratulations, go get ’em, and stick together,” Langlois said in a message to the team following the meeting.
“Oh, and thanks for playing our tunes!” he added.
On top of that, the Queen’s Men’s Volleyball team will host the Forsyth Cup the same day at Queen’s ARC. With Queen’s boasting the top-seeded team in the East OUA, the day will bring the three next-seeded teams ( Toronto Varsity Blues, McMaster Marauders and Windsor Lancers) to Kingston for this championship conference.
