The Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is inviting area residents to come out and have coffee with them later this month.

Coffee with a Cop will take place at the Cardinal Café, 14153 Road 38, in Sharbot Lake. On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., community members can mingle with OPP officers and strike up a conversation.

The Coffee with A Cop initiative was launched in Hawthorne, California in 2011 when Officers from the Hawthorne Police Department were looking for ways to interact more successfully with the citizens they served each day, according to the website. Since, it has expanded throughout the United States, and internationally to Canada, Europe, Australia, Africa, and Latin America.

“The key to Coffee with a Cop’s growing success is that it opens the door for interactions outside of the crisis situations that typically bring law enforcement officers and community members together,” the Coffee with a Cop website states.

According to a release from the OPP, there is no agenda or speeches at this informal event, “just a chance to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the officers in your neighbourhood,” OPP said.
