Frontenac County seeks input on tourism development plan

Frontenac County is looking for community engagement on their Destination Development Plan, which aims to align government, economic development, community, and tourism priorities for the County. The plan addresses the interactions between visitors, the industry that serves them, the community that hosts them, and the environment, in order to deliver a more sustainable and equitable year-round local economy.
According to a release, over the past year, the Destination Development Plan has been a focus for the Economic Development Team with Frontenac County. The County said that a consultant has been compiling input from community members, business owners, operators, municipal staff, tourism organizations and other key participants and it is now time to present the draft plan to the community.
“Tourism has always been a meaningful industry in Frontenac County, and interest in our region has certainly grown over the past few years,” said Richard Allen, Manager of Economic Development. “This plan will set the foundation for our communities to support this interest and to continue to welcome visitors in a sustainable and manageable way.”
Ultimately, the Destination Development Plan is designed to protect and enhance the character of the destination, increase destination competitiveness and visitor spend, and optimize overall quality of life for local residents, the County stated on their website. The goal is to help ensure that everyone in the destination has an opportunity to benefit from, and contribute to, the local visitor economy.
This is a community plan, according to the release, and the Economic Development team is providing an opportunity for area residents to hear the presentation from the consultant and ask questions or provide comments. The County said that hearing from the community is very important to confirm the priorities or to identify anything that may be missing.
The presentation will take place over Zoom at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Mar. 23, 2022. Interested residents are asked to register in advance for this meeting.
Following the online session, the County said that the plan will be updated to reflect any comments and then shared with the Destination Development Plan Steering Committee for a final review. The Destination Development Plan will be presented to County of Frontenac Council on Wednesday, Apr. 20, 2022.
